Saturday Night Storm

It was still hot and humid Saturday evening, and we were just hanging out in the cool of the AC enjoying our KFC.  We decided to step outside for a bit just after sunset, and were amazed at the way the sky looked.

Dad captured these sky shots looking west and south.  There hadn't been anything near us on the radar, but these clouds indicated something brewing.

As we sat on the deck, Dad noticed it getting dark and ominous directly north, and it wasn't long before he began to see lightning.  As we watched the northern sky growing darker and darker, we noticed that it was coming directly at us.  The dark, angry looking clouds were a deep mauve color that I don't recall seeing before.  As Dad commented, it looked like a wall cloud coming in and it seemed as if we were on the verge of all hell breaking loose!

Dad went in to check the radar, and I attempted to film the storm coming in.  Here's the video.
OK. I'm PISSED!  It looked like it was uploading but it didn't.  I tried uploading on Chrome 3 times before I decided to try Explorer.  It looked like it was uploading on Explorer just fine, but after coming back half hour later, it states there was a "PROBLEM".  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  You'll have to see it when you come home.  I quit!

The video is a little dark, but I think you can see how dramatic a change it was as the storm approached.  Well, actually you can't see what isn't here.  Anyway,  here's a screen shot of the storm system.

It started to break up, but not before we received a substantial amount of rain.  As storms around here go, it was pretty lack luster, but the lighning put on a great show.  It was still ligtning with distant, rumbling thunder when we went to bed around midnight.

That's all for today.  I'll be headed out to the Back Forty to pick some lettuce for dinner.  Nick and Heather are coming over and we're going to throw some burgers and dogs on the grill.  Can't wait to see what yummy dessert Heather brings.  It's hot and humid so I've got my fingers crossed for lemon squares!
